How To Get involved

flashathon pic 2.jpg

A Dancer is a participant of our 8-Hour Dance Marathon that fundraises for the kids at Akron Children's Hospital throughout the year and then attends the event in the spring. Although we call our participants "Dancers," you do not have to dance in order to make the most out of the experience. Dancers stand on their feet for all hours of the Dance Marathon while they participate in the activities, refuel with a variety of meals, hear the stories of our Miracle Kids, and most importantly, DANCE! You can register as an individual, join a team, or create your own team. When you register, you will be assigned to a Color Crew, which serves as a way to create community between Dancers and motivate one another in our fundraising efforts. All individual Dancers on a team will be on the same Color Crew. Click here for instructions on how to register!

Team Captains will become the middle person between Flashathon and the team. They will create the team page on DonorDrive and stay in contact with the Flashathon board. This position contains all the fun from being a general dancer but with a little more responsibility. As a team captain, you will have the opportunity to be more involved in the organization, while still having a typical dancer experience.

As a member of the General Board, you can be more involved with Dance Marathon. In this, you can come to monthly meetings and ultimately help more with the planning process of all things Flashathon. You will still be considered a "typical dancer" but you will have the opportunity to help with more Flashathon events and be more connected with Akron Children's Hospital and Children's Miracle Network Dance Marathon.

Morale Captains are a team of energetic individuals who help out the Morale Chair in keeping the spirit alive during the actual Flashathon event. They will perform the Morale Dance multiple times throughout the event and be in charge of a color crew. This position requires more time commitment than being the typical dancer; however, it is a fun position to get more involved with the organization.

Joining the executive board will require the most time commitment. You will meet at least twice a month throughout the school year and help plan events. This is the highest level of involvement and will get you more informed on Akron Children's Hospital and Hospital and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals as a whole. There are many opportunities throughout the year for board members, such as attending the leadership conference in the summer.
